Course Evaluation

Student evaluations of courses are an important instrument for ensuring and continuously improving the quality of teaching and are conducted regularly at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. They provide students with the opportunity to identify both the strengths of a course and areas for improvement.

For instructors, the feedback serves as a valuable basis for assessing their own teaching and, where appropriate, making adjustments for future iterations of the course.

The organization of the evaluations is the responsibility of the Dean of Studies. If necessary, they consult with the instructors regarding the results.

Organization

Course evaluations are coordinated by the Dean’s Office of Studies. An online questionnaire is used, containing the core questions defined university-wide. Evaluations for regularly scheduled weekly courses are generally conducted during the second half of the lecture period. For irregular course formats, individual coordination with the Dean’s Office of Studies is required. To determine the evaluation period, course dates must be provided; these can be submitted for the course catalog via email to evaluation@maphy.uni-hannover.de.

Lectures are evaluated directly through Stud.IP (accessible via QR code or the corresponding tab). In tutorials/exercise sessions, evaluations continue to be conducted using TANs distributed to students during the sessions.

Teaching Quality Index (LQI)

After the completion of the course evaluations, the ZQS/Quality Development Office calculates the Teaching Quality Index (LQI) for each individual course. On this basis, a clear and concise report is prepared for the respective Deans of Studies, summarizing the results of the individual courses and clearly identifying any potential need for action.
